Desert Des Agriates – Corsica
Northern Corsica is a very barren territory, it reminds me when I visited the “valley of the moon” in Sardinia as a child, in the end they are two very close islands that share very similar dialects, terroirs and vines, even if divided by a different mother language. Vermentino and Grenache (Cannonau), are vines that are often found in the territories that belong to the Tyrrhenian area; in Corsica we also discovered the red vines “Niellucciu” and “Sciaccarellu”. One day, visiting the desolate “Désert des Agriate”, we saw a road sign hidden amongst the holm oak bushes that indicated the direction to reach the “Domaine Giacometti”, one of the few vignerons in the area that, with a resilient attitude, cultivates on the vineyards in a context without anthropic impact, really wild. It took about 20 km of rough and uneven gravel road to get to his estate. However, once we arrived, the view was satisfying.
